The mountains for excursions

BARANCI – THE FAMILY ADVENTURE MOUNTAIN

The family-adventure-mountain-Haunold
Haunold is the popular mountain for family excursions. The 4-seater chair lift is situated 3 minutes from San Candido village centre and takes you quickly up to an altitude of 1,500 m. Flowering meadows and lush green pastures provide a wonderful playground for young and old: There are waiting highlights like the new world of the giant, the children’s highlight adventure trail, a tubing run and the fun bob. The mountain station is the starting point for many easy and medium hikes through spruce forests and up to the Baranci summit with stunning views of the 3 Zinnen Dolomites.

The world of the giant
Once upon a time, a small child drank from an enchanted spring. In no time at all, the small child grew into a giant with the strength of a bear! You can discover the home of giant Haunold in our new giant’s realm at the Haunold. There you can follow in his footsteps by visiting various interactive stations. No matter if you are little or grown up, the realm guarantees a lot of fun!

In the dwarf village
Very close to the ‘giant’s footprint’ lakes by the giant Haunold hut, you’ll find hidden away an alpine recreation area, a wonderful place to unwind. Right there you will also find the Dwarf Village. High up in the branches there are quaint tree houses which you can explore via ladders and rope bridges. The life of a dwarf is reflected in the nine mountain huts below.

STIERGARTEN – THE MOUNTAIN OF ALPINE PASTURES
Normally the great views come only at the end of a tour, but the Stiergarten gives you an early reward with a view of the Sexten sundial and the 3 Zinnen Dolomites. The mountain is a wonderful starting point for lots of hikes and bike tours to the Sesto mountain pastures and over the Carnic Alpine ridgeway.

MONTE ELMO – THE MOUNTAIN WITH VIEWS
There’s nowhere else in the area which offers you such a far-ranging view as Helm! And the visitor experience is enhanced by Olperl's Mountain World, the Kinderalm, and a variety of walking and hiking trails from which you can marvel at the sunrise or sunset.

Olperl Nature Park
The entertaining alpine circuit for the entire family
The entrance to the nature park is right next to the Helm-Bahnen mountain station and invites visitors to meet Olperl’s best friends – in the realm of the animals’ mountain world. The circular trail is 1.2 km long and is suitable for buggies. As you walk, you’ll come across 10 special and very exciting places - with fantastic views of the Sexten Dolomites. Olperl, the hoaxster with luminous eyes as big as saucers, keeps you company along the trail.

BAREFOOT in Olperl’s footprints
The highest barefoot trail in the Dolomites at 2,150 m above sea level is the healthy and enjoyable way to explore Olperl’s Nature Park. Soft moss, fragrant larch trees, stone slabs and shingle stimulate the foot reflex zones, before you immerse your feet in the cool spring water – so refreshing.

ROTWAND – THE DOLOMITE EXPERIENCE
The Dolomites are almost close enough to touch from Rotwand. This is a location where there were military emplacements in the First World War, and you can immerse yourself in history here, scale the most famous via ferratas in the Alps and visit the smallest and only reindeer herd in the Alps.

Reindeers at the Croda Rossa
Reindeer? In the Alps? Who’d have thought it? But our herd of reindeer have actually made the long journey from Finland to Rotwand and the third generation are now living here! You can be there when the only reindeer herd in the Alps is being fed and pick up lots of interesting and curious facts about the peculiarities of this particular deer species. The friendly four-legged friends are looking forward to your visit!
